Why is working at Cordlife the best decision I've ever made?

As part of our employee story series, we asked Vishal to describe his journey at Cordlife and how he has seen himself grow alongside the company. 

Vishal joined Cordlife India in 2013 as the Group Finance Manager for Southeast Asia. He is now the Chief Operating Officer of the company, where he co-leads and manages all backend business operations. During his first five years in finance, Vishal has proven to be a go-getter who is always eager to learn, and management soon took notice. Just as a seedling needs the right conditions to grow, Cordlife has given Vishal a place where he can keep challenging himself and growing as he goes. 

What is a benefit of working here that not many people know about?

“Cordlife offers the best of both worlds: the work is challenging and inspiring, but we also have the autonomy to make decisions while maintaining a good work-life balance. This is what most employees seek in their job.”

As remote working blurs the line between work and personal life, the HR leaders at Cordlife are paying closer attention to employees’ health and well-being to ensure that they do not experience burnout. Cordlife encourages its employees to do well at work and take care of themselves outside of work by making sure they have a good work-life balance. As a result, employee productivity and, ultimately, work performance improve. 

Could you tell us about one of the most memorable times you had at Cordlife?

“It was when one of my junior colleagues came up and wished me “Happy Teacher’s Day” on the 5th of September, which India celebrates to recognise the dedication of our teachers. This gesture made me realise that, despite our corporate positions, we are all mentors to someone, and I pledge to impart the best of my knowledge with all my fellow Cordlifers so that they can do the same for their successors.”

Vishal is still inspired by Cordlife's focus on people and close-knit culture, which pushes him to act as a mentor for the younger employees and share the right values and knowledge that he has learned over his many years with the company.

Is there ever a time when you realise you’ve made the right decision to work here?

“When the pandemic struck two years ago, I witnessed first-hand how Cordlife stood by us and supported us to the best of its ability. This is when I realised I had made the right decision by working and staying with Cordlife.”

Vishal remembered how Cordlife has helped the employees in India since the pandemic lockdowns started two years ago. While there was news of companies closing down, large-scale retrenchments, and employees’ salaries being docked in a desperate bid for companies to stay afloat, Vishal was grateful that the company tightened their belts in other ways, took the situation into account, and increased the health insurance benefits for employees and their family members instead. This is because Cordlife understands how critical it is to protect our employees' health and well-being.
